GREATLY MISSED AND LONG CHERISHED

The Loss of Wonderful Leaders

The New York State bilingual education community has long been a dedicated and passionate group, united by the belief that language and culture are essential parts of every student’s identity. Through their work, these educators and advocates have opened doors for multilingual learners, shaping policies and practices that celebrate diversity and promote equity in education.

The loss of several remarkable individuals from this community has been deeply felt. These were people who gave selflessly, sharing their wisdom, compassion, and unwavering commitment to students and colleagues alike. Their legacy lives on in every classroom where language is honored, and every child who feels seen and supported. We carry their memory forward with gratitude and renewed dedication to the work they so deeply believed in.
